In parallel to 4 teams of students, a team of creative practitioners and teachers also worked on this task, however unlike the students there was only a short amount of time available in which to tackle it. The purpose of this page is to show our effort and our approach to solving the task so that others may see the process in action and learn from our mistakes!

Creative Challenge - Teacher’s Response - March 2021
Ways of Improving a Film Festival
In response to the COVID pandemic, almost all social engagements were closed, cancelled or closely controlled. The free-flowing buzz and joy of a festival was definitely off the cards. However our local festival (FilmBath) did host events, a socially distanced in-person cinema evening and a remote, online and streamed viewings shown over an extended period of time and in partnership with some other smaller film festivals across the country.
But our challenge for the design class, is how can we improve the film festival experience going forward? What if socially distanced events are here to stay? How might we improve a remote film experience or engage a wider more diverse audience with the event?
Our approach:
For this challenge and to be deliberately different to our approach from challenge 1, we decided to try and work predominately with an online tool called Miro. In essence a digital whiteboard where any team member can write notes or add arrows and virtual sticky notes to the wall. We’ve used it before in class and it’s a joy to see 100 students building something on it in real time.
